GM Remodeling Services LLC handles kitchen remodeling in Philadelphia from layout to final hookups: cabinets, countertops, flooring, backsplash, plumbing and electrical. Licensed and insured, working in Philadelphia homes since 2011.
Schedule a Free In-Home ConsultationA kitchen remodel pulls in more trades than any other room: demolition, framing, plumbing, electrical, drywall, flooring, cabinets, counters, tile and paint. When those are separate companies, the homeowner ends up coordinating them, and a delay in one holds up the rest.
GM does these trades as one contractor, so there is a single quote and a single point of contact from the first visit to the last hookup. It starts with a free in-home visit to measure the room and talk through what you want to change.
The word remodel covers very different projects, and the scope is the decision that most affects budget and time.
Layout, plumbing and wiring stay where they are. New cabinet doors or paint, countertops, backsplash, sink, faucet, lighting and flooring. This suits a kitchen that works well but looks dated.
Everything is replaced, cabinets included, but the sink, range and refrigerator stay in roughly the same places. You get new storage and finishes without rerouting drains or gas.
Walls go down to the studs, and plumbing, gas and electrical are rerun for a different layout. This is the choice when the room itself does not work: too closed off, too little counter, appliances in the wrong place.
Rowhome kitchens are usually long and narrow and sit at the back of the house, between the dining room and the yard door. That shape favors a galley or an L and often rules out a full island; a peninsula or a narrow island tends to fit better. Two questions come up in almost every project. The first is whether the wall to the dining room can come out. It often can, but if it carries the floor above it needs a beam, engineering and a building permit. The second is how far the sink can move. A drain has to slope toward the stack, so the farther the sink travels, the more floor or wall has to be opened. We look at both during the first visit, so the layout you plan is one the house can take.
Cabinets are usually the largest single item, followed by countertops and labor. Moving plumbing, gas or walls adds more than any finish choice. Old houses also hold surprises behind the plaster, such as outdated wiring or a floor that is out of level, and it is sensible to leave room in the budget for them.
Demolition and rough plumbing and electrical come first, then inspections, drywall, flooring and cabinets. Stone countertops are measured only after the cabinets are installed and are then fabricated, which adds a wait before the sink can be connected. Our kitchen remodel timeline goes through each phase.
Painting, new cabinets in the same layout and new countertops generally do not need one. New or moved plumbing, electrical circuits, gas lines and structural changes do, through Licenses & Inspections.
Cabinets sized to the room and installed level and plumb, which takes shimming and scribing in houses where walls and floors are not straight.
If you are buying kitchen cabinets in Philadelphia from a showroom or a home center, have the room measured before you order. A narrow rowhome kitchen leaves little margin, and a soffit, a radiator or a filler strip can change which sizes fit.
Countertop replacement, and islands or peninsulas where the room allows. We help you compare quartz, granite, butcher block and laminate by how you cook and how much upkeep you want.
Complete projects from demolition to finished room, with plumbing, electrical, drywall, flooring and paint done by the same contractor.
Tile, vinyl plank or hardwood floors and tile backsplashes. In older houses the subfloor is checked and leveled first, because tile cracks over a floor that moves.
Planning where the sink, range, refrigerator and storage go, how people move through the room and where light is needed, before anything is ordered.
Sink, faucet, disposal, dishwasher, refrigerator water line and range connections, plus the dedicated circuits, outlets and lighting a current kitchen needs.

Call (267) 968-3913The range is wide because the scope varies so much: a cosmetic refresh costs a fraction of a full gut with a new layout. Cabinets, countertops and whether plumbing, gas or walls move are the main drivers. We quote your kitchen after a free in-home visit.
A refresh is the shortest. A full remodel takes several weeks, and custom cabinets or stone countertops add lead time before and during the job. We go over the expected schedule for your project when we quote it.
Not for paint, countertops or cabinets in the same layout. You do for new or relocated plumbing, electrical circuits, gas lines or structural changes such as removing a wall.
Often, yes. If the wall only divides the rooms it is a straightforward removal. If it supports the floor above, it needs a properly sized beam and a building permit, and any pipes, wires or ducts inside it have to be rerouted.
Yes. We can supply and install cabinets or install the ones you purchased. Show us the order before you place it so we can check the sizes against the room.
Not for most of it. Plan a temporary setup in another room with the refrigerator, a microwave and a small table, and expect to be without the kitchen sink from demolition until the countertops are in.
An island needs a clear walkway on every side, and many rowhome kitchens are too narrow for that. A peninsula or a narrow island often gives the same counter space without blocking the way to the back door.
